Another SUPER cute service dog update! 🥹❤️

Nick had his very first staycation with his family, and we could not be more excited about how well it went!

Nick is our giant German Shepherd/Rottweiler mix who is training to become an assistance and mobility dog for an amazing young girl. And seriously—the two of them together are just the sweetest thing. 🥹

During his staycation, Nick was already performing some of the tasks he's learned and even started working on his positioning alongside her walker. Seeing all of that training start to transfer over to his future handler is such a special milestone.

She's so excited about him. He's so excited about her. And we're just over here watching everything start to come together. ❤️

These are the moments that make all of the training worth it.

YAY, NICK! 🎉🐕‍🦺

One very special dog getting closer and closer to being exactly where he's meant to be. ❤️

Second opinions matter.

When it comes to your health, if a doctor told you something extreme, life-changing, and difficult to process, you might seek a second opinion before making an irreversible decision.

We believe the same should apply to our dogs.

If someone evaluates your dog and tells you that their behavior is so severe that euthanasia is the only option, that is an incredibly hard thing to hear. Before making a permanent decision, why wouldn’t you get a second opinion?

That’s a big part of what we do.

Every single one of our current board-and-train dogs was headed toward euthanasia before coming to us. Someone had determined that their behavior was too dangerous, too severe, or unlikely to improve enough for their life to continue.

We evaluate the dog in front of us. We look at the behavior, the triggers, the environment, the dog's ability to learn and recover, and whether that behavior can realistically and safely be managed or modified.

Sometimes severe behavior really is severe. Behavioral euthanasia is a serious decision, and there are cases where safety and quality of life have to be considered. But an irreversible decision deserves a thorough evaluation—especially from someone experienced in severe behavior cases.

One professional's limitations do not automatically define your dog's limitations.

So if you're ever told, "Your dog needs to be euthanized because they can't change," don't be afraid to ask more questions and seek another qualified opinion.

Second opinions matter. Their life may depend on it.

Gracie is working hard on her socialization! 🐾 It’s important for dogs to get out into the world and learn to work through new environments with confidence and comfort. It may take some time to get there, but trust the process—it’s all about building a dog who can confidently handle the world around them! 💕
