A month ago, Fig came to us with a long list of serious behavioral challenges. She struggled with impulse control that had resulted in bites to people and other animals, redirected aggression toward her handler, resource guarding around food, dog aggression, and a prey drive that had already led to a cat being severely injured.

She had been sitting in boarding, waiting and hoping a rescue would take a chance on her. When they did, they quickly realized she wasn't ready for a typical home yet.

We're now about halfway through her six-week behavior modification program, and today we witnessed something we honestly celebrate with dogs like Fig.

For the first time, after weeks of carefully building neutrality around other dogs, Fig was able to engage with another dog, disengage on her own, accept a correction appropriately, and then calmly re-engage when it was appropriateโ€”all without additional guidance from her handler.

That may not sound like much to the average person, but for a dog with Fig's history, it's a massive milestone.

Progress like this reminds us why we do what we do. Dogs like Fig aren't "bad dogs." They're dogs who need structure, guidance, and someone willing to understand them.

The heartbreaking reality is that when Fig's board and train ends, she'll have to return to boarding. Without another option, that may ultimately be the end of her story.

We believe Fig deserves the opportunity to keep proving herself. What she needs now is an experienced foster or adopterโ€”a truly special home willing to continue her journey. We'll continue supporting her training for life, because we want her to succeed.

If you think you might be that person, or even if you just want to meet her and learn more, please send us a message.

And if you can't foster or adopt, the easiest way to help is to share Fig's story. The right person can't find her if they never see her.
๐Ÿพ Pack Walk Today! ๐Ÿพ

Today's pack walk will be led by our working dog trainer, Melina, from 2:00โ€“3:00 p.m.

Please RSVP if you're planning to attend. Just send us a quick message saying, "I'll be there for the pack walk."

If we don't receive any RSVPs, we'll assume no one is coming and will cancel today's pack walk. Since Melina is covering the walk by herself and has other responsibilities today, we want to make sure people are planning to attend before asking her to make the time.

We'll see you this afternoon if you're joining us!
